March 3rd Network Outage: Information and Resolution

What Happened

During scheduled routing work on our Madison infrastructure by one of our upstream network peers, a previously undetected flaw in our internal backup routing system was exposed. These backup routes exist specifically to protect customers during exactly this type of maintenance. Unfortunately, our testing missed this specific scenario, leading to an edge case that allowed the flaw to go unnoticed.

As a result, what should have been fairly straightforward maintenance work on external routing infrastructure directly impacted connectivity for all LiteWire customers. This is obviously not ideal and we understand what an inconvenience this can be.

Resolution

Root cause identified and fixed
The specific backup routing flaw has been identified and corrected.

Full service restored
All customers should have normal connectivity restored as of 11:00 PM, March 18, 2026.

Preventing This in the Future

We are making immediate adjustments to our backup routing infrastructure and maintenance testing procedures. Our goal is to close the gap that allowed this scenario to go untested, so that a similar outage cannot occur again.
